Faculty and organizations within higher education Christian Anderson is assistant professor of higher education.His primary research focus is on the history of higher education and the organization and governance of higher education (particularly the role of faculty). These two areas intersected in his dissertation on the history of the development of faculty senates at research universities. He has done work on comparative higher education, especially on the role of students and faculty in the governance of Latin American universities.

Prior to his career at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Ari worked as a Programmer/Analyst at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and taught graduate level courses in the Instructional Technology program at Texas Tech University.

Dr. Ismahan Arslan-Ari

She received her doctorate (Ed.D.) in Instructional Technology with a minor in Special Education (Deafblind) from Texas Tech University. She also holds a master’s degrees in Special Education. Previously, she worked as a lead instructional designer at the Texas Tech University Independent School District which provides fully online K-12 education to students all around the world.

After earning her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in educational leadership and policy studies, she served as a postdoctoral research associate for the University Council for Educational Administration at the University of Virginia. Cunningham studies educational leadership, leadership preparation, policy, and improvement science.

Dr. Suzy E Hardie

School leadership preparation, Educational leadership, Talent management in rural areas Suzy Hardie, Ph.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor and the Program Coordinator of the Master’s and Education Specialist’s programs in Educational Leadership and Policies at the University of South Carolina. She analyzes effective school leadership in high-needs urban and rural schools. Through research, she knows of the importance of context, so she helps to educate administrative interns to be able to be successful leaders in any school context.
Toby Jenkins is an Associate Professor of Higher Education and Director of the Museum of Education. She also serves as Interim Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Graduate School. Her work focuses on the use of culture as a politic of social survival, a tool of social change, and a transformational space within educational settings. She is considered a national expert on cultural inclusion and belonging in higher education.

Johnson earned his B.A. in history, M.A., and Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Previously, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. For six years, he served in a dual role as a higher education administrator responsible for student success initiatives in the first-year seminar program.

Martínez is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policies in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina. He has worked extensively in traditionally marginalized, LatinX, and Indigenous communities as an advocate, researcher, and educator. Prior to pursuing his professorship, Davíd was an educational administrator in northern Illinois, and a middle school and high school educator.

Qualitative Methods: Ethnographic and Participatory Research I conduct research at the intersection of education, gender, culture, and society. I am an ethnographer and sociologist of education and have worked principally on the issues of education policy and forms of empowerment amongst low caste adolescent girls in rural India. In my research, I strive to provide insight into the socio-cultural and historical forces that both shape and perpetuate the marginalization of adolescent girls.

Dr. Hengtao Tang

His research interests address the intersection of multimodal data analytics, self-regulated learning, and AI in education, specifically using multimodal data analytics to understand how learners regulate their learning and collaborative problem solving in technology-enhanced learning environments and thereby creating AI-driven scaffolds to facilitate learners' disposition, knowledge, skills, and career action outcomes.

minoritized college students’ experiences at U.S. institutions of higher education Chas Thompson (he/him/his) holds a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Arkansas. His research is centered around minoritized college students’ experiences at U.S. institutions of higher education, with a particular focus on college students with minoritized sexual and gender identities. He has published works on queer students’ experiences in higher education history, college student fashion activism, and preparing higher education and student affairs professionals.

Education Finance, Human Resources Management, Quantitative Methodologies Dr. Tran is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policies who studies issues related to education human resources (HR) and finance. He has published numerous articles on the topics, including several with students. He holds two national HR certifications and sits on the board of advisors for the National Education Finance Conference.
