English A specialist in British literature and nature writing, Dr. Bellanca has published a book entitled Daybooks of Discovery: Nature Diaries in Britain, 1770-1870 (University of Virginia Press, 2007). Among her other publications are articles on the journals of Gerard Manley Hopkins and George Eliot and the poetry of Alexander Pope and Anna Barbauld. She is also the author of a book and article about the beginning of rural electric service in Pennsylvania.

I write about the role silence plays in moral transformations, and about the ways patterns of silence structure our lives.
Spiritual autobiography, Rhetoric and popular culture, Magical and occult literature I hold the Ph.D. in English from the University of South Carolina, and most of my recent research has involved rhetoric and popular culture. I have published and presented on spiritual autobiography, magical and occult texts, gender studies, American literature, and pedagogy. My current work focuses on the industrial/dark ambient band Coil and the intersections of magic, rhetoric, and gender in their work and its cultural contexts.

My research has examined young children's understanding of life and death concepts, the cognitive underpinnings of metaphor and irony comprehension in young children, the development of paranormal beliefs, terror management theory, and the scholarship of assessment and teaching. In 2014 I left Maine to assume the role of Regional Campus Dean of USC Sumter.
