DeBoom, Meredith J

Assistant Professor

My research analyzes the distributive geopolitics of resource extraction and development in and from Africa. I'm particularly interested in how Africans are engaging with geopolitical transitions (e.g., the shift to low-carbon energy, China’s rise) to pursue multi-scalar geostrategic and political economic goals—and with what implications, for whom, and where. My current work on ‘climate necropolitics' examines the processes through which climate change-related violence is rendered legitimate.
