Dr. Gay's research is primarily in the areas of search-based software engineering and automated testing and analysis, with an emphasis on aspects of the test oracle program. His work, often involving aspects of data mining and optimization, strives to harness the information content of software development artifacts to improve the efficiency and quality of the testing process and to automate tasks in order to lessen the burden on human developers.
