Chen, PhD, Brian K

Associate Professor

My current research examines the impact of legal doctrines and regulation on the provision of health care services. Specifically, I empirically investigate whether medical malpractice liability causes physicians to practice defensive medicine, and what legal, financial, or organizational factors enhance or mitigate its effect. I also study how legal restrictions on physician ownership of ancillary medical services change physician prescribing behavior and the organization of the health services.
