Professor Hu's research interests are in the area of machine learning, deep learning, big data, data mining, evolutionary computation, and their applications in bioinformatics, material informatics, biomedical informatics, and intelligent manufacturing. He is also interested in hybrid machine learning and evolutionary algorithms as well as automated evolutionary design
