Crocker, Holly Adryan

Professor

I am at work on my current book project, The Reformation of Feminine Virtue from Chaucer to Shakespeare, which examines early modern attempts to integrate the medieval tradition of the feminized virtues into a regulatory structure of gender difference. As I argue, poets' resistance to feminine virtue's disciplinary transformation challenges the stultifying gender ideals promoted by conduct instruction in England between 1375-1625.
