She then earned a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX where she worked in the lab of Dr. Kim Orth. She then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer with Dr. Sharon Dent studying epigenetics.

This is particularly important when studying viruses for which there are no vaccines available, such as Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a human pathogen which infects nearly every child before the age of 2, and in some cases, can result in lifelong complications.
