Name Personal Focus Summary

Dr. Robert Parks Dunn

Research Assistant Professor

ecosystem-based management of coastal habitats, estuarine community ecology broadly Robert is an ecologist who studies species interactions, population dynamics, and the effects of fisheries on coastal ecosystems. Originally from North Carolina, he is joining us from the West coast, where he completed a PhD (UC Davis) and postdoc (San Diego State University) studying Caribbean coral reefs, kelp forests, and the spiny lobster fishery in southern California and Baja California Mexico. He has a Master’s from NC State where his research focused on oyster reef ecology & restoration.

Dr. Matthew Eric Kimball

Research Associate Professor

Fish Ecology, Estuarine Ecology, Habitat Restoration My general research interests are in marine ecology, particularly the influence of biological and physical factors on the community dynamics of estuarine and coastal flora and fauna. I am especially interested in the influence of such factors on the distribution and movement of juvenile and adult stages of estuarine and coastal fishes and invertebrates, as well as the effects of habitat on the survival and growth of these organisms.

Dr. Erik Michael Smith

Research Associate Professor

Coastal and estuarine ecology, Biogeochemistry, Carbon and nutrient cycling My interests broadly focus on the ecology and biogeochemistry of the coastal zone. I am particularly interested in how changes to the landscape, including those associated with local-scale urban development as well as larger-scale climate changes, affect the transport and transformations of carbon and nutrients in aquatic environments. The goal of much of my research is to support improved management of the ecosystems that sustain healthy coastal communities and economies.
